Viola and Cello Scholarships

One winner on each instrument  will receive a full-tuition scholarship in the amount of $1,250.00 to attend Elm City ChamberFest from June 25th – July 7th, 2012.

Eligibility Requirements:

Cello and viola students aged 14 – 18 who will have completed the 8th grade by June of 2012 are eligible to audition. Students must currently be enrolled in weekly private lessons and participate in a weekly ensemble program, either at school or with a professional coach or conductor.

 

Audition Requirements:

 Live auditions are strongly encouraged.  However, should it not be possible for you attend a live audition, please submit a DVD recording no later than March 12, 2012.

 

Viola

One movement from the 6 Suites for Unaccompanied Viola by J.S Bach and one movement of a standard concerto.

For recorded auditions please note: an accompanist must be present for the concerto portion of your recording (a recording from a recent performance is acceptable).  Live auditioners do not need a pianist at the auditions. 

One major and one minor 3-octave scale of your choice.

Prepared excerpts ( we will provide them for you - please contact us for copies):

          Mozart Quartet in F major, K. 590: 1st movement, start at mm. 112 and play to downbeat of  mm. 157.

          Debussy Quartet in g minor: 3rd movement, from rehearsal #12 to #13 (please count all rests).

Live auditioners: in addition to your prepared pieces, you will be asked to do some sight-reading. 

 

Cello

          Dvorak Trio in e minor, op. 90 (“Dumky”): 1st mvt, start at mm. 73 (Lento Maestoso. Tempo I) and play to end of  mm. 137 (just before the Poco Adagio).

Please fill out the scholarship form and return it along with the following information:

 Completed ECCF 2012 application form and $50 application fee.

 A letter of recommendation from your private instructor.

 A letter of recommendation from your current chamber music coach or conductor.

 

Scholarship applications along with all the other above information are due by February 20th, 2012. Applicants will not be considered (i.e. applications will not be processed) unless all of the above information has been received.
